A tanker owned by Athens-based Aegean Shipping Management has been attacked 2 miles from the Libyan port of Derna [Darna], killing one Greek and one Romanian crew member, and injuring two Filipinos.
The tanker, the Araevo (pictured), was apparently attacked by forces loyal to Libya's internationally recognised government, which claimed that it was transporting militants to the Islamist-controlled port.
But the National Oil Corporation (NOC) said the tanker had only been delivering fuel, and claimed that the relevant authorities had been informed of its arrival.
The Greek government has condemned what it described as an "unprovoked and cowardly air attack", labeling it a "criminal act".
