Germany, the Netherlands and Italy have joined Britain in urging their citizens to leave Benghazi over an "imminent and specific threat", according to reports from Financial Times and others.
France and Canada have reportedly followed suit, while Australians have been advised against travelling to any part of the country.
Air Malta cancelled Thursday's flights to Benghazi and said it would review the situation before the next scheduled flight to Benghazi on Tuesday 29th January; flights to and from Tripoli were unaffected.
Libya has strongly refuted claims that the security situation in Benghazi is deteriorating.
