British Minister Leads UK Trade Delegation to Tripoli

British cabinet minister Ken Clarke is in Tripoli leading a trade mission by the London-based the Middle East Association (MEA).

The MEA mission includes 22 companies and organisations covering a wide spectrum of British expertise focussed on Libya, including education, healthcare, environmental facilities, defence, security and aviation services.

According to a report from Libya Herald, Clarke's presence together the MEA visit is seen as fitting into an increased UK business focus on Libya in the wake of the new Ali Zeidan government taking office.

It is the second UK trade mission in three weeks and the Foreign Office Minister responsible for Middle East and North Africa Affairs, Alistair Birt, is expected in a few days’ time.

It is to be hoped that Trade Missions will also make representation as to the value of small companies, within UK, who can offer detailed expertise within projects, offering more cost effective advice and support, perhaps in partnership with Libyan companies, as we have done.
