German diplomat Martin Kobler (pictured), who previously held senior UN posts in Iraq, Afghanistan and Congo, is reported to have been chosen to succeed Spain's Bernardino Leon as the United Nations' new special envoy for Libya.
The new position would put him in charge of UN efforts to bring peace to the country, but Leon is still hopeful he can pull off a peace deal, setting 20th October as the new “final” deadline for the signing of the seventh draft of his plan for a government of national accor.
So far, there has been no official confirmation of the appointment from the United Nations.
